Tennis Ends Season in Conference USA Championship First Round

Marshall defeated by Charlotte 4-0, ends season at 6-16
HOUSTON – Marshall's 2019 women's tennis season came to a close Thursday night when the Thundering Herd was defeated by Charlotte in the first round of the Conference USA Championship, 4-0. Marshall ends its season at 6-16.

The Thundering Herd had a chance to capture the doubles point. After Victoria Walter and Matilde Mulatero were defeated at the No. 3 spot, Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych claimed a 6-2 win at the top spot. In the deciding match, Liz Stefancic and Madi Ballow fell in a hard-fought tiebreaker at the No. 2 spot, 7-6(8).

Charlotte won each of the three completed singles matches to close out the match. Ballow was defeated by Pierina Imparato at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-0. Walter fell to Emma Scott in straight sets at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3. Stefancic lost to Rocio Safont in the clinching match, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot.

In the other three matches, Mulatero was leading against Immie Cowper at the No. 6 spot, 2-6, 6-2, 2-0, Dankanych was trailing against Sasha Lee at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 3-6, 0-2 and Smith was ahead against Tai Martin at the top spot, 6-4, 4-4.
