Herd running back claims second preseason honor
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall swimming standout Catherine Bendziewicz has claimed honorable mention Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) following a successful 2018-19 campaign.
The award recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships or achieved a "B" time standard.
The Chapin, S.C. nursing major, who was Marshall's 2017-18 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, is a three-time winner of the Conference USA gold medal in the 200 individual medley, boasting with a personal-best time of 1:58.94 this season. She holds the school record in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley, and ranks second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle.
"It was a very successful year, individually, for Catherine," said Marshall head coach Ian Walsh. "She has been able to perform at an elite level in the pool and the classroom during her time here. To be recognized for both is well deserved."
Earlier this summer, the Thundering Herd was recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America team for its performance in the classroom during the spring semester.
