Herd to play five non-league games including at Kentucky

2020-21 Full Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's basketball head coach Tony Kemper announced the Thundering Herd's non-conference schedule for the 2020-21 season on Thursday.

The Herd will play five contests in the month of December before moving on to Conference USA action on Jan. 1. Attendance and ticketing information is forthcoming.

Coming up for Marshall will be home games with Morgan State (Dec. 1), Radford (Dec. 6) and Morehead State (Dec. 17). The Herd will have two road contests, first at Kentucky on Dec. 9 and then at St. Bonaventure on Dec. 13.

"I'm really excited to get this season underway," coach Kemper said. "I know so many people, including our student-athletes, have worked and sacrificed to make it happen. We are thrilled to get it started at home in front of our tremendous fans. This schedule will challenge us and prepare us for a difficult C-USA season. We look forward to seeing fans in the Cam Henderson Center."

The Morgan State Bears finished 2019-20 with a 17-13 record, including a win over Delaware State in the first round of the MEAC Tournament before the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs and Marshall leads the series, 3-1.

The Radford Highlanders were 17-12 in 2019-20 as well as the No. 2 seed in the Big South Tournament. Radford was never able to play as the tournament was canceled before the Highlanders first game. The two schools have met 27 times in the past, however this will be the first meeting since Nov. 9, 2012. Marshall leads the series, 15-12.

The Morehead State Eagles are coming off a 10-20 season and feature six newcomers. The Herd and the Eagles have previously met 48 times on the court and this will be the first meeting in five years (Nov. 13, 2015). The Herd is up in the all-time series, 27-21. The only program that Marshall has played more times over the years than Morehead State is West Virginia (55 meetings).

The Kentucky Wildcats were 22-8 this past season, won its first round game over Tennessee in the SEC Tournament, before dropping a second round contest with Mississippi State. This will be the 20th all-time meeting between Marshall and UK.

St. Bonaventure is looking to bounce back after a 7-23 record in 2019-20. The Herd has played the Bonnies just once and it was all the back on Dec. 29, 1995. Marshall won 84-73.
