Women’s Basketball Announces Signees for 2021-22 Recruiting Class

Samantha LaFon and Sofia Llanos to join Herd
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's basketball head coach Tony Kemper announced the additions of Samantha LaFon and Sofia Llanos for 2021-22 on Friday.
LaFon is from Chesapeake, Ohio and Llanos comes from Tarragona, Spain.
LaFon has starred for Ironton High School and has been a force on the inside. This past season she averaged 14 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. She added 17 blocks as well. Over the last couple years LaFon has been honored as First Team All-District, two-time First Team All-Conference, All-State Special Mention and was the league's leading rebounder. She also ranked 12th in the state of Ohio for field goal percentage as she hit 57 percent of her shots. LaFon is a multi-sport athlete as she has also played volleyball and tennis.
"Samantha is an aggressive athlete that was a very efficient interior player during her high school career," coach Kemper said. "We believe her maturity, work ethic and energy will help her develop both on and off the floor."
Llanos has building quite a resume over in her native Tarragona, Spain. She debuted third national league at 15 years old and then second national league at 17. With her club team in Tarragona she has been the leading scorer every year since 2015-16. Llanos was named the MVP of a tournament in Logrono after scoring 22 points in the final. During the 2019-20 season, she lit up the scoreboard with 309 points in 18 games (17.2 ppg), scoring 20 points or more in seven contests. She scored a season-high 26 points in 25 minutes against C.B. Gava.
"Sofia is a long, versatile guard with an ability to score at all levels on the floor," coach Kemper said. "She has developed her game against some of the top competition in Spain which is well known internationally for its quality basketball."
