HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Thundering Herd men's basketball team (5-1) defeated the Robert Morris University Colonials (1-2) by a final score of 85-71 on Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.

"I thought Jarrod said it best. We started out more focused than we did against Toledo, Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the game. "Basketball is different. The games are so packed in and we can't dwell on the last (game). Robert Morris came in last minute to play us. I thought we got better at pick and rolls and setting our picks. I thought we did a better job on penetration."

Jannson Williams powered the Herd with a game-high 24 points, which tied his career-high, while making 9-of-his-17 attempts from the field, 5-for-10 from three-point range, and rejecting three shots.

Jarrod West did it all on Sunday as he scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out eight assists and had seven steals in the victory.

Taevion Kinsey added 17 points and Obinna Anochili-Killen provided another 15 as the Marshall starters accounted for 77 of the team's 85 points.

AJ Bramah led the Colonials with 18 points and six rebounds.

The game started off with both teams struggling offensively, with no baskets made until 17:29 when Anochili-Killen found his way with a layup, followed by a West layup to put the Herd up early, 4-0.

After the teams traded baskets for a few minutes, MU used a pair of made threes by West and a three from Williams to push the lead to 12, 21-9, with 13:18 left in the half.

After a quick, 6-0 run by RMU, the Herd went on a 12-point streak with the help of sophomore center Goran Miladinovic's two free throws, a Williams' layup, a tip-in from Kinsey's, another Williams' three-pointer and freshman guard David Early's three-pointer. This put the Herd on top, 35-17.

Robert Morris answered and went on a 9-0 run to come close to the Herd, 35-26. But Marshall retaliated with a dunk by Williams and a basket from beyond the arc by sophomore guard/forward Marko Sarenac. Williams hit his fourth three of the game and Anochili-Killen completed two free throws to give the Herd a 45-32 lead at halftime.

The Herd went on a 6-0 run to start the half as West recorded his fourth steal, made a layup and redshirt sophomore guard Andrew Taylor followed with another layup and Kinsey finished with a dunk. MU had three runs of the five or more points in the second half.

The Colonials finished the final 5:16 on a 10-2, but the Herd finished the game leading wire-to-wire with the 85-71 win.
