Stefancic and Van Hansewyck Defeated No. 3 Ranked Doubles Team, Women’s Tennis Falls to Yale

Tennis was defeated by Yale on Friday, 5-2
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Marshall women's tennis team dropped its match, 5-2, to Yale on Friday, Feb. 14 in New Haven, Connecticut, but not without Liz Stefancic and Jutte Van Hansewyck pulling of a big doubles win.
Stefancic and Hansewyck defeated No 3. ranked Martinelli and Gong in the doubles portion of the contest, 6-2.
"It was the highlight of the day," head coach John Mercer said. "They played a very clean match which was nice to see. Their result just shows the good progress we've been able to make over the last year."
This drops Marshall to 5-3 and lifts Yale to 5-2 on the season.
"We played a good match," Mercer said. "Yale is a very good team. They are very well coached, which shows up in their disciplined play."
On the singles side, Madi Ballow and Madison Riley both collected wins. Ballow defeated Caroline Dunleavy, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 and Riley had a comeback win against Vivian Cheng, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
"Both girls fought very hard till the end and pulled out excellent wins," Mercer said.
Marshall is set to face Fordham in New York, N.Y., on Sunday (Feb. 16). First serve is set for 12 p.m.
