HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's golf, swimming and diving and volleyball programs were recognized Tuesday by the NCAA for having an outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR) that ranked in the top 10 percent nationally.
The programs recorded their marks (a perfect rate of 1,000) over the course of the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years. Swimming and Diving, who has received the distinction in each of the last four years, stood alone among the league's aquatic programs and was one of just 49 nationally to reach the standard.
"The commitment to excellence in the classroom has always been one of our core principles at Marshall," said the Thundering Herd's Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. "Our coaches, student-athletes and the hard-working academic advisors in the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program are worthy of this recognition for a job well done."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation, and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced Tuesday, May 19.
