Second All-Academic team selection for senior

DALLAS – Marshall volleyball senior Sarah Schank was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Monday. It is the second time that Schank has been honored as an All-Academic selection.

"I am so proud of Sarah and all of her continual hard work on and off the court throughout her career here at Marshall," Herd head coach Ari Aganus said. "This is a huge honor that she has worked hard for every day, and truly puts the student in student-athlete."

Schank was named to the All-Academic Team in 2020-21 and is one of five players on this year's team that has earned past honors. Schank holds a 3.71 GPA as a finance major and a minor in entrepreneurship and management. She finished her Marshall career 11th all-time in digs with 1,175. The Herd's floor leader tallied her 1,000th career dig at No. 22 WKU, becoming the 14th member of Marshall's 1,000 Digs Club. Schank played her first two years at Marshall as an outside hitter and then made the transition to libero before the 2020-21 season.

The Naperville, Ill., native thrived in her new position by setting records and was named the 2020-21 Conference USA Libero of the Year. This season, Schank kept right on rolling with a career-high 473 digs, an average of 4.59 per set which is tied for fourth-best in a single season in team history. She totaled double-digit digs in 23-of-25 matches and had 20 or more 14 times. Schank rang up a season-best 34, tied for fifth-best in a match in team history, versus Toledo. She recorded a career-high six aces, tied for fourth-best in team history, against Old Dominion.

Schank has been a leader on and off the court for Marshall. She has been heavily involved in the community and earned the 2019 C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award. Schank is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and is in line to make it 4-for-4 by the end of the current academic year.
