Banton, Laster honored
DALLAS – Marshall swimmer Paige Banton and diver Alaina Laster were named Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, in a release from the league office on Wednesday.
Â
The Thundering Herd defeated Toledo on Saturday by a score of 172-127.
Â
Banton had a great overall meet performance. The sophomore was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay team and recorded the fastest split across both teams (29.19). In addition to the relay win, Banton also had first-place finishes in the 100 (1:04.74 -- fourth in C-USA) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.75 -- second in C-USA) events. Her performances in both events were personal season-best times. She also placed third in the 200 IM.
Laster finished in the top three in both of her dives to earn her second Diver of the Week award this season. She placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 240.30, earning four points for the Herd. She followed that up with a third-place performance in the 1-meter dive with a score of 232.73.
Â
"I'm really proud of both of these women," said Marshall head coach Ian Walsh. "Each one has been really dialed in this semester and committing to the details. This is Alaina's second award, which speaks to the consistency of her performances.
"We're headed to Liberty this weekend and both of them, along with their teammates, are in a great position to have some breakthrough performances."
Â
Marshall is back in action this weekend at Liberty for a three-day meet that begins on Friday morning at 11 a.m.
