OLEAN, N.Y. – The Marshall women's basketball team fell 50-47 at the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in the Reilly Center on Sunday. Sophomore guard Savannah Wheeler scored 18 points and now has 851 in her career.

The Thundering Herd drops to 3-4 overall. The Bonnies improve to 7-3.

"We don't feel very good right now," head coach Tony Kemper said. "I think we improved from the Coppin State game. We had a great defensive game in the first half. I think if you watch Asianae Johnson enough like we have, I knew that the whole game would not go for her like the first half did. She got going and really brought them back.

"We got the ball to good spots in the fourth quarter, but we have to finish. Not quite enough to get it done. I thought we fought today. I thought Kia Sivils played her tail off. She did a good job guarding Johnson when she was on her and fought for some rebounds. We have to get tougher mentally late and just keep getting better."

Wheeler scored in double-figures for the 10th-straight game and for the 46th time in her career out of 56 games. She added three rebounds, two assists, two steals and her first block of the season to her line.

Freshman Aariona Redman had a career-day as she grabbed nine rebounds, scored eight points and played just over 21 minutes. Redman also tallied a block. Junior Lorelei Roper led the Herd on the glass with a season-high 10 boards. It was her first game this season with double-digit rebounds and the third of her career. Roper, who exited in the second quarter with an injury and came back to play the second half, extended her blocks streak to seven-straight games as she had one rejection in the third quarter.

Graduate student Kennedi Colclough tallied 11 points and grabbed four boards. Senior Brianah Ferby had six points with two three-pointers in the first half. She added two boards and two steals. Senior Aaliyah Dunham had four rebounds and one assists. Junior Kia Sivils finished with four rebounds, three coming on the offensive side, and added two points, one assist and one steal. Sophomore Alexis Johnson tallied two boards.

The Herd opened up the game on fire from outside in the first quarter hitting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Marshall's defense made things tough on the Bonnies as St. Bonaventure shot just 1-of-13 from the floor in the period. The Bonnies finally scored off two free throws from I'yanna Lops at the 3:36 mark, and then tallied its first field goal on a jumper from Johnson with 2:01 remaining in the first. Wheeler scored 10 points in the quarter and Roper grabbed six rebounds. The Herd led 17-4.

The second quarter was a struggle offensively for both teams scoring 10 points each. Redman scored five points in the second and added four boards and one block. Marshall led 27-14 at the break.

Johnson was the story of the second half as she triggered the comeback for St. Bonaventure, as the home team took a one-point lead at the end of the third, 37-36.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter. St. Bonaventure's biggest lead was four with 9:28 remaining, however Marshall managed to keep bringing the deficit back to one. The Herd regained the lead at the 5:03 mark, 45-44, off a quick steal and layup from Wheeler. Two minutes later, the Bonnies stepped back out in front and maintained the slim lead the rest of the way as Marshall continued to fight.

The Herd return to the Cam Henderson Center on Wednesday, Dec. 15, to take on Alderson Broaddus. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
