Herd Men's Basketball Cruises Past Bluefield University

Kinsey records eighth 20-point game of the season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (6-3) went wire-to-wire in a 100-57 victory over the Bluefield University Rams on Wednesday night in the Cam Henderson Center. 

"It was great to have Bluefield here," Marshall men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the win. "It was a good ball game. We got to play everybody. We took care of business, but we still have to get to work on making threes." 

Junior Taevion Kinsey led the Herd with 21 points as he made nine of his 13 shots from the field. The guard added a team-high eight rebounds and seven assists to his stat line in the win. 

Freshmen Obinna Anochili-Killen and Aymeric Toussaint each added 12 points in the victory. Anochili-Killen rejected a game-high seven shots and brought down six boards as Toussaint had four rebounds.  

The Green and White came out of the gates hot as Anochili-Killen scored the first four points of the game and senior Darius George rejected a pair of shots in the Rams' first three possessions on offense. 

After Bluefield tied the game 10-10, the Herd went on an 11-0 and led 21-10 at the 10:52 mark in the first half. The home side never saw its lead dip below nine points the rest of the game. 

Marshall had three runs of five or more points in the final 10 minutes of the first half. The Herd led 47-27 at halftime as Kinsey nailed a jumper from the free throw line at the buzzer. 

Marshall dominated the second half with five runs of six or more points. MU closed the contest on a 7-0 run that saw made three-point baskets by freshman Kyle Braun and redshirt sophomore Jeremy Dillon, along with a free throw by Toussaint. The 43-point final margin was the Herd's largest lead of the game.

NOTES   
The Herd brought down 61 rebounds against Bluefield, tied for fifth-most in a game in program history. It was the seventh game in which it had 60 or more rebounds. 

Marshall scored a season-high 58 points in the paint. 

Kinsey reached double-figure scoring for the 43rd consecutive game and has scored 20 or more points in eight of the first nine games this season. The Columbus, Ohio, native now has 29 games of 20 or more points in his career.  

The Herd made a three in its 979th consecutive game, with the last contest coming without a triple occurring on Feb. 27, 1989, in a win over App State.  

Anochili-Killen has reached double-figure scoring in eight of the team's nine games this season and has blocked at least five shots in four contests. 

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor rejected a career-high three shots. 

Marshall tallied 100 points in a game for the first time since Feb. 12, 2021, against Middle Tennessee. 

All 13 Herd student-athletes who saw the court scored in the win with each having at least three points.
