HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's Swimming/Diving and Tennis program each garnered Conference USA Sport Academic Awards, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Â
The Thundering Herd's swimming and diving program posted a grade point average of 3.77 for the 2020-21 school year, while Marshall's tennis team checked in with a 3.82.
Â
The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year.
Â
In fact, 14 of the Thundering Herd's programs finished the year with a GPA of 3.1 or higher.
Â
In May, the league recognized Marshall with 90 recipients of the C-USA Academic Medal (GPA of 3.75 or higher), the conference's third-highest total, while 271 made the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Quote from Marshall Swimming/Diving Coach Ian Walsh:
"Our coaches are so proud of the success our women have earned, both in the pool and now in the classroom, this season. There have been a lot of "firsts" for Marshall Swimming and Diving on the athletic side. To receive this award means a lot to this program."
"Through the most challenging season, our group found a way to be the standard, academically, within our conference. They earned it every day and we look forward to continuing our academic excellence for years to come."
