No. 6 Men’s Soccer to Host No. 7 Akron

Kickoff set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Hoops Family Field
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The 6th-ranked Marshall men's soccer team is back in action as the 7th-ranked Akron Zips make the trip to Huntington. Kickoff from Hoops Family Field is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Thundering Herd enters the match at 3-1-2 overall while the Zips come in at 4-1-1.

Marshall is coming off a 2-2 draw against No. 4 West Virginia in the Mountain State Derby. The Herd set a Hoops Family Field attendance record with 3,033 fans packed in to watch the two top 10 teams battle it out. The Mountaineers scored first in the 17th minute. Less than two minutes later fifth-year senior Pedro Dolabella tied the match at 1-1 with his third goal of the year. Dolabella has also scored a goal in the last three contests.
West Virginia took a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute. Junior Max Schneider hit the equalizer by blasting a free kick from outside of the 18-yard box. The teams continued through the physical match, still tied at 2-2 when the final buzzer sounded after 110 minutes.
Senior Vinicius Fernandes leads the team in scoring with 11 points. His four goals also leads the Herd. Senior Vitor Dias is next with 10 points. Dias leads the Herd with four assists and is tied with Dolabella for second in goals scored with three. Fernandes and Dolabella are both tied for second in assists with three each. Senior goalkeeper Oliver Semmle has allowed 10 goals and recorded 17 saves. He has a 1.88 goals against average.
Marshall ranks in the top 10 in several categories including scoring offense (3rd – 3.00), assists per game (4th – 2.83), points per game (4th – 8.83), total goals (4th – 18) and total points (6th – 53).
The Herd has outshot the competition 76-59 and 38-30 on goal.
Following Marshall's match against Akron, the Herd stays home for two more matches against No. 14 Kentucky (Sept. 25) and then versus Butler (Sept. 29).
The Opponent
The Zips began the season with four-straight wins over Wright State (7-1), Michigan State (2-1), Robert Morris (3-0) and then over then No. 3 Pittsburgh (2-1). Akron played to a 1-1 draw with then No. 3 Indiana on Sept. 10 and then fell 1-0 to Ohio State.
Diogo Pacheco leads the team in scoring with three goals, four assists and 10 points. Dyson Clapier, Ryan Kingsford and Wan Kuzri Wan Kamal have scored two goals each. Akron has scored 15 goals while allowing just five. The Zips have outshot the opposition 90-56 and 35-20 on goal.
Following Akron's match against the Herd, the Zips return home to face Yale on Sept. 25.
