Banton wins 200 Breaststroke
ATHENS, Ohio – The Marshall University swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet on the road to the Ohio Bobcats, 217-83, on Friday. Paige Banton won the 200 Breaststroke.
"I thought as a group we had some opportunities we let slip through the cracks, but we made some adjustments after the first break that the staff was really happy with," Marshall swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh said. "Individually, we created better opportunities for ourselves as each event went by."
"Klava (Katayama), Paige (Banton), and Eszter (Laban) had some strong in-season performances this afternoon. Eszter raced really tough and walked away with a season best in her 500 Freestyle following the 1000 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly. Paige made some nice adjustments going into her 200 Breaststroke, which was nice to see her execute. Klava notched a season best in her 50 Freestyle and her consistency in training really showed."
Katayama took second place in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly. Laban gave the Herd a pair of second place finishes in the 500 and 1000 Freestyle.
"Our divers were down a person today, but really stepped up on both boards walking away with some season bests in the process. Megan (Siford) has them in a great position as we head into the spring semester."
Grace Kelsheimer earned third in the three-meter dive with a score of 237.90 (three points) as Kailee Payne finished with a score of 245.03 for a second-place (four points) finish in the one-meter dive
"We are hoping to get another opportunity to compete since we had to postpone our meet Saturday against James Madison. We'll be sharper as we get back into the training rhythm following the break."
