Herd Men’s Basketball Tabbed Sixth, Three Named to All-Sun Belt Preseason Teams

Kinsey first team, Curfman and Taylor third
NEW ORLEANS – The Marshall University men's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2022-23 Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll as senior Taevion Kinsey was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, and redshirt junior Andrew Taylor and junior Kamdyn Curfman were named to the third team, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Kinsey, a guard from Columbus, Ohio, led Marshall and was fourth in C-USA with 19.1 points per game as he tallied 10 or more points in 30 of the 31 games he played last season, including 17 games of at least 20 points with two 30-point efforts. He tied his career-high 31 points against Rice on Jan. 15, 2022 to go with 10 assists and no turnovers for a double-double in the contest.
Taylor, a native from Corbin, Kentucky, averaged 14.2 points per game, second on Marshall, to go with 4.4 assists per game, fourth most in Conference USA, last season. He recorded three double-doubles last season and had a team-best 59 steals last season, 62nd most in the nation.
Last season at VMI, Curfman averaged 15.7 points per game, 7th most in the Big South Conference, before transferring to Marshall at the conclusion of the season. The North Bethesda, Maryland, native made 117 three-pointers, second most in NCAA Division I men's basketball, during the 2021-22 campaign as he shot 39.3 percent from behind the arc. Curfman had 29 double-digit scoring efforts last season, including six games of 20 or more points.
The Herd begins its 2022-23 campaign with exhibitions against the University of Charleston on October 28 and UPIKE on November 2. Both contests are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
MU opens the regular season in Charlotte, North Carolina, against Queens on November 7.
