Eight programs have 100 percent graduation success rate
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University's athletic programs are seeing success both on the field and in the classroom.
Eight Marshall programs currently enjoy a 100 percent Graduation Success Rate, based on data released from the NCAA stemming from its 2015 cohort, which involves students who initially enrolled in 2015.
"We have students who take ownership in being part of a larger graduation program," said Marshall Director of Athletics Christian Spears. "Others are counting on them to succeed individually because the group is assessed as a whole, and we have eight of our teams achieve perfect graduation success rates. That is a tribute to our faculty, our academic support team and our coaches who consistently prioritize academic success. I greatly appreciate all involved who made this achievement possible."
The eight Marshall programs that finished with a 100 percent graduation rate include men's cross country, men's golf, women's basketball, women's track and field and cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and volleyball.
Baseball and softball were also above a 90 percent graduation rate while every Marshall program listed in the NCAA study ranked ahead of the NCAA's federal average for graduation rates among programs.
On Saturday, 31 Marshall student-athletes celebrated their graduation from Marshall University, including 14 in the football program. Marshall's graduation ceremony was Saturday morning at Mountain Health Arena.
"The best thing we get to do is help young people achieve their dreams and goals," Spears said. "Graduating from Marshall, earning a degree, honoring their family and preparing for their future is one of the top accomplishments in their lives. It is an incredible honor to be a small part of our student athletes' journey."
