HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – With its first 100-point game in just over a year, including a season-high 30 from fifth-year senior Taevion Kinsey, the Marshall University men's basketball team (10-2) took down the Toledo Rockets (7-4), 100-85, on Saturday in the Cam Henderson Center.

"I'm proud of my kids," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the game. "I was worried about this one, because they have five guys who can shoot threes."

Kinsey scored his 30 points on a 12-for-19 shooting night while going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. The Columbus, Ohio, native also grabbed six rebounds, five on the offensive end and committed no turnovers.

Redshirt senior Andrew Taylor was no slouch on the offensive end as he tallied a season-high 27 points to go with eight rebounds and six helpers. Freshman Micah Handlogten registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 boards.

With 16 points on four makes from three-point range and four free-throws, Kamdyn Curfman tied his season-high in points and dished out a career-high five assists.

The two sides seemingly traded runs for the first 31 minutes of the ballgame as the Herd led 68-66 with 8:56 remaining. Then a 13-0 run from 8:32 mark to 6:24 for Marshall helped them takeover the contest. As part of the run, Handlogten tallied six points, Taylor four and Curfman three.

A 9-0 advantage, capped off by a Curfman three-pointer, gave MU its largest lead of the contest at 17 points, 95-78, with 2:41 left.

Marshall made 18 of its 31 shots from the field in the second half for a 58.1 shooting percentage. For the game, the Herd made a season-high 20 free-throws on 24 attempts (83.3 percent).

Notes
Tonight was the first time MU tallied 100 points in a game since December 8, 2021, against Bluefield and was the first time against a Division I opponent since February 21, 2021, against Middle Tennessee.

Marshall is 4-0 against the Mid-American Conference this season.

The Herd turned eight Rocket turnovers into 13 points and scored 24 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds. It also registered 23 assists on 35 makes.

Kinsey's 30-point effort marked his fourth game of 30 or more points in his career. He has scored 24 or more points in his last three games. The guard ended a 17-point half with a put-back dunk as time expired in the first half.

Handlogten's double-double was his third of the season as the freshman has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in six contests during the year.

Taylor recorded his fourth game of 20 or more points this season as Curfman reached double-figure scoring for the sixth time in the last seven games.
