HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
The Marshall University men's basketball team (10-16, 3-10 C-USA) hung on for a 67-63 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs (10-16, 5-8 C-USA) on Thursday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

"The kids played hard," Marshall men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said about his players after the victory. "They (ODU) had just come off a big win against UAB. We have a lot of things we can work on, but we pulled it out."

Sophomore Marko Sarenac led the Herd with a career-high 16 points. The forward made 50 percent of his shots from the field, 5-for-10, including 4-for-8 from behind the arc.

Junior Taevion Kinsey followed with 15 points in the victory. The Columbus, Ohio, native added four rebounds and three assists to his stat line.

Senior Mikel Beyers tallied 12 points and seven boards as redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor added 10 points to go with six rebounds and five helpers.

ODU's C.J. Keyser scored a game-high 21 points and Austin Trice brought down 19 boards.

The Monarchs scored five of the game's first seven points. They led the Herd for nearly the first 16 minutes of the contest.

However, Sarenac made three of his four attempts from three-point range from 5:31 to 3:48, with his last long ball sending Marshall on a 9-0 run. The native of Serbia accounted for seven points during the streak and helped the home team to a 32-25 lead with 1:35 left in the first half.

ODU closed the first 20 minutes of action on a 4-0 advantage, but the Herd led at halftime, 32-29.

Marshall extended its lead back to seven points, 36-29, on a dunk by Beyers and a layup by sophomore Goran Miladinovic to begin the second half.

The Monarchs dug into the Herd's lead with three runs of four or more points, including an 8-0 streak from the 11:26 mark to 10:29. ODU tied the game at 56-56 with 5:22 left in the ballgame.

Kinsey then threw down a pair of dunks to help Marshall retake the lead, 60-56, two minutes later. Then with one second on the clock, the guard iced the game with a pair of free-throws to put it in the books for the Green and White.

NOTES
Sarenac has recorded back-to-back games with 10 or more points.

Beyers' seven rebounds set a new season-high for the forward, who has had six rebounds in three games this season

The Herd made a three in its 996th consecutive game, with the last contest without a triple occurring on Feb. 27, 1989, in a win over App State.

Kinsey has scored 10 or more points in 57 of his last 58 games.

Marshall turned 12 Monarch turnovers into 14 points.
