Box Score | D'Antoni Press Conference

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (10-17, 3-11 C-USA) shot over 50 percent from the field, but couldn't overcome the hotter-shooting hands of the Charlotte 49ers (14-12, 7-7 C-USA) in a 99-84 loss on Saturday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

"They (Charlotte) played extremely well," Marshall men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said. "Sometimes you run into a team and they have it all going. I wasn't dissatisfied with my team, but we made some crucial mistakes."

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor finished with 21 points and six assists. The Corbin, Kentucky, native made nine of his 14 field-goal attempts, including 3-for-6 on three-point attempts.

Junior Taevion Kinsey followed with 19 points on an 8-for-15 night from the field.

Senior Mikel Beyers and freshman David Early each added 12 points. Early drained four of his five attempts from behind the arc.

Charlotte's Jahmir Young recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 assists. Aly Khalifa tallied 20 points as he made all eight of his attempts from the field, including all four of his three-point shots.

Sophomore Goran Miladinovic scored the opening points of the game on a dunk to give the home team the early lead.

However, the 49ers had six runs of at least four points during the rest of the half, including a 7-0 streak. CLT led by as many as 11 points during the first 20 minutes as Marshall trailed 48-40 at the break.

Both teams shot over 50 percent during the first half with the 49ers shooting 58.6 percent, while the Herd made 54.8 percent of its shots.

Marshall traded runs with the visitors for the first 10 minutes of the second half as it trailed by eight, 74-66, at the 10:25 mark.

Charlotte then used a 17-5 advantage from 9:20 to 4:12 to take a 20-point lead, 91-71, its largest of the contest. The Herd was unable to recover from the run as CLT took the victory.

NOTES
Marshall shot over 50 percent from the field for the fifth time this season.

The Herd made a three in its 997th consecutive game, with the last contest without a triple occurring on Feb. 27, 1989, in a win over App State.

Kinsey has scored 10 or more points in 58 of his last 59 games. The Columbus, Ohio, native sits at 1,822 career points. He passed J.R. VanHoose's (1998-02) 1,803 and Russell Lee's (1969-72) 1,815 points to leap into sixth all-time in program history.

Taylor scored 20 or more points for the third time in his last five games.
