HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (11-17, 4-11 C-USA) left Hattiesburg with a 74-60 win over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (6-21, 1-13 C-USA) on Monday night at the Reed Green Coliseum.

"You cannot take your foot off the pedal," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the win. "We did, but we had enough to pull it out. I'm proud of that. A road win is a road win. Now we head to Middle (Tennessee) to see if we can do it again."

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor led the Herd in scoring for the second-straight contest as he poured in 17 points. The Corbin, Kentucky, native had four assists and was one of six Marshall student-athletes with five rebounds in the victory.

Junior Taevion Kinsey added 16 points, and like Taylor, had five rebounds and four helpers.

Freshman David Early had 13 points and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the behind the arc.

Tyler Stevenson recorded a double-double for Southern Miss with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Herd started the game on a hot streak with a 12-2 run in the first four minutes. Taylor and freshman Obinna Anochili-Killen each contributed five points with sophomore Goran Miladinovic adding two.

Marshall continued its first-half dominance when freshman Aymeric Toussaint made a jumper in the paint and senior Darius George completed a three-point play at the 10:03 mark. After a Golden Eagle three pointer, sophomore Marko Sarenac hit a trio of free throw attempts and Kinsey capped off a 10-3 MU advantage to give the visitors a 30-13 lead with 8:33 left in the half.

A layup by Taylor at the 2:47 mark gave the Herd its largest lead of the opening stanza at 20 points, 40-20. Marshall led 45-25 at halftime.

Marshall made 53.1 percent (17-for-32) of its shots in the first 20 minutes.

Southern Miss cut into the Herd lead with an 11-0 streak from the 13:57 mark to 9:12 as the Green and White held a 53-44 advantage.

However, a 6-0 run with four minutes to go steadied Marshall back to a double-digit lead, 64-49, as the teams traded points the rest of way.
