400 Medley Relay Scores on Day 1 of NIC Championships

RESULTS
ELKHART, In. – Marshall's 400 Medley Relay team got the Thundering Herd on the scoreboard Thursday on the first day of competition at the 2022 National Invitational Championships.
The group consisting of Or Tamir, Paige Banton, Madeline Hart and Gabrielle Ivey scored two points by finishing 20th in a time of 3:46.48. The time was the eighth-fastest in school history.
The Herd's 200 Free Relay team of Ivey, Klava Katayama, Tamir and Leigh Lopez-Silvers took 26th in 1:35.09.
Individually, Tamir placed 23rd in the 50 Back with a time of 26.31 seconds, while Banton led the team with a 27th-place finish in the 50 Breast in 29.43.
Katayama swam both the 50 Butterfly and 50 Free, placing 39th (25.33) and 41st (23.75), respectively.
The competition continues Friday and Saturday.

"It was a good start to the meet for this group. We knew our first day was going to be tough as many of our strengths lie in events later in the meet. A few of our women were right outside of scoring this morning and set us up well for our relays in finals. All seven of our individual swims improved from our seeds going into the meet, which was a great indicator for us. Three of those swims missed finals tonight by less than .25 seconds.
"We had a solid showing in our 200 Freestyle Relay, placing just outside of scoring position. Our 400 Medley Relay was an exciting race and got us on the board from a team points perspective. Or, Paige, Madeline and Gabby put together the eighth-fastest 400 Medley Relay in program history and was certainly the highlight of the day.
"This is a great opportunity to go up against schools we don't normally have the opportunity to race, many of them being Power 5 programs. Going into Day 2, we sit 35 out of 56 teams and look to move up the standings with seven scoring opportunities Friday morning."
