Herd’s Payne Named C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year

Ithaca, N.Y. native earns honor
DALLAS, Texas – Marshall's Kailee Payne was named Freshman Diver of the Year by Conference USA in a release from the league office Monday afternoon.
Payne competed at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships this season, recording a 1-meter score of 201.95 over the three-day competition.
The Ithaca, N.Y. native finished just off the podium in the C-USA 1-meter event, with a school-record score of 280.70, to go with a sixth-place finish at 3-meter (266.10). She also took 10th in the C-USA platform event (178.75).
All three C-USA scores were lifetime-bests. She was the only freshman in the league to make the finals at both 1 and 3-meter.
"I worked with Kailee all year and one thing is certain: she love to compete," said Marshall Diving Coach Megan Siford. "I'm so proud of her and all that she has accomplished this year. We are all so excited to see what the future has in store for her here at Marshall University!"
Payne strung together 11 top-five finishes at 1 and 3-meter during her freshman season with the Thundering Herd.
