Herd tied for seventh-best team GPA in the nation

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall swimming and diving team was honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2022 semester, the organization announced.

The Thundering Herd tallied an incredible team grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 in the spring, and tied for seventh-best across all of Division I.

CSCAA Executive Director had this to say about Marshall, "Coach Walsh understands the values of training the complete student-athlete and that is evident by the team's success in the classroom."

Stanford led all women's programs with a 3.83. The Herd also led all Conference USA schools as FIU was the next closest at 3.71 followed by Rice (3.68), North Texas (3.60), Florida Atlantic (3.43) and Old Dominion (3.27).

"I'm incredibly proud of the commitment our women have continued to show in the classroom this year," Herd head coach Ian Walsh said. "We had 12 student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs this semester, 26 student-athletes over 3.5 GPA, and all 31 of our student athletes had over a 3.0 GPA. They hold themselves, and each other, to a standard of excellence both in and out of the water."

"We are so grateful for Kaylyn Torain and the rest of the staff in the Buck Harless Student Athlete Academic Center that support our women in their academic journey. Our student-athletes have so much to be proud of and we look forward to continuing to raise the bar in our academic and athletic pursuits here at Marshall."

In addition to all 31 student-athletes on the roster earning a GPA of 3.00 for the semester, 18 earned the Conference USA Academic Medal in the spring of 2022 for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better, the most of any roster at Marshall.
