Banton, McBride Earn Weekly Missouri Valley Conference S&D Honors

Banton swimmer of the week, McBride freshman of the week
ST. LOUIS – Marshall University swimming and diving student-athletes Paige Banton and Mia McBride each earned Missouri Valley Conference weekly honors on Wednesday, as announced by the league office. Banton was named MVC Swimmer of the Week and McBride was earned MVC Freshman of the Week for the third time.
Banton won seven events this past weekend. On Friday against Duquesne, she placed first as a member of the 400 Medley Relay (3:44.85), she split 1:01.69, shattered Marshall's pool record by four seconds, and this time puts her in fourth overall in the MVC. She also finished first in the 100 IM (57.36) which places her in second in the MVC. She brought in another top finish in the 50 Breaststroke with a lifetime-best performance putting her second in the MVC again. On Saturday, she finished first in the 200 Medley relay with a 29.04 split. She finished first in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke. She brought in her final first place in the 200 IM with a season best of 2:08.16.
McBride brought in five first-place finishes for Marshall this weekend against Duquesne. She led off as the first member of the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 55.44, breaking Marshall's pool record by four seconds and ranking the relay at fourth in the MVC. She also finished first in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke. Her final first-place finish on Friday was in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 25.82, ranking her third in the MVC and giving her a lifetime-best performance. On Saturday, she placed first in the 200 Medley Relay and 100 Backstroke. She also notched a fourth-place finish in the 200 Backstroke.
