Marshall women enter Saturday on two-game winning streak

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd women's basketball team looks for its third win in a row against Arkansas State Saturday from Jonesboro.

PREGAME NOTES

Freshman Sydni Scott is coming off a career-high 15-point performance. The Prospect Park, Pennsylvania native made five three-pointers in the win over ULM.

Redshirt-junior Mahogany Matthews had two blocks in the final minute of the team's win Thursday. Matthews will face another challenge inside Saturday against two players from A-State averaging over seven rebounds per game. 

Junior Roshala Scott enters Saturday's contest with 991 points. Scott notched a season-high four steals Thursday night  Roshala is from nearby Earle, about 50 miles south of Jonesboro.

ABOUT THE RED WOLVES

Arkansas State enters Saturday at 6-14 and 1-8 in Sun Belt play. The Red Wolves are 4-4 at home following a 68-59 loss to Southern Miss Thursday night. 

A-State's Melodie Kapinga does not lead the team in rebounding, yet her offensive rebound per game average is the best in the Sun Belt. 

The senior transfer from UC Irvine averages 3.9 offensive boards per game, which is top in the conference and 15th nationally.

While Kapinga averages 7.1 rebounds per game, sophomore Anna Griffin leads the team with 8.0 boards per game.

Marshall and the Red Wolves have only met once before, the Herd defeated the Red Wolves in 1985, 89-85. The Herd women's basketball team has never played in the state of Arkansas.
