HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 1 Marshall University men's soccer team (12-0, 5-0 Sun Belt) tallied a season-high six goals in a 6-1 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-5-3, 1-2-2 Sun Belt) Friday night at Hoops Family Field.

The win extended MU's winning streak to 12 consecutive matches as Pablo Simon had a six-point match and Matthew Bell registered his second contest of three assists this season.

"I was a little frustrated with the performance to be honest," Herd men's soccer coach Chris Grassie said after the match. "At 2-0, we took our foot off the gas, stopped competing and doing the things needed to win football matches. We got sloppy in the middle of the park. When they scored it was a wake-up call and then we looked like a championship team."

The six-goal evening was highlighted by a pair from Simon. The Spaniard's first of the evening came in the ninth minute when Bell dished him a pass, he spun through the CCU defense and put the shot past the keeper for the goal. The eventual game-winner put The Herd up 2-0 on the first of a three-assist night for Bell.

"Matthew gave me the ball and I tried to do something with it," Simon said about his first goal. "I always try that move in practice and today it worked."

Simon then tallied his second goal of the night, fifth of the season, on a rebound off a Bell shot in the 53rd minute to make it 3-1 Marshall.

The junior then recorded back-to-back assists with a pair of crosses finding Rai Pinto for his first collegiate goal in the 65th minute. Then Simon sent a ball into Aymane Sordo who bicycle-kicked it home in the 70th for a highlight-reel goal. Bell earned a secondary assist on the Sordo tally giving him nine on the year, one away from tying the program single-season record.

"The bicycle kick, I'm not joking he did that in training the other day," Grassie said about Sordo's goal. "He didn't have his best game today, but he's that type of player who is so dangerous that he can get super creative like that and make it work."

Braian Amaro found the back of the goal just 7:38 into the contest for the first score of the match and his career. The defender headed home a corner from Alexander Stjernegaard that was deflected by Morris Duggan.

The final goal of the contest came from a long through ball by goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta as Alexander Adjetey tracked it down and beat Coastal goalkeeper Kilian Vallant to make it 6-1.

"I think it's good to build confidence this late in the season," Bell said of his team's performance. "We need to keep that confidence going into the rest of the season."

The Herd outshot the Chanticleers 27-2, 17-1 in the second half, including 11-1 in shots on goal.
