HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 1 Marshall University men's soccer team (12-0, 5-0 Sun Belt) heads up I-79 to Morgantown for the Mountain State Derby on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against the No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-0-4, 2-0-3 Sun Belt). The in-state rivalry matchup features two of the final six unbeaten teams in NCAA Division I men's soccer.

PRE-MATCH NOTES
- The Herd extended its winning streak to 12 matches with a 6-1 win over Coastal Carolina on Friday.
- Pablo Simon had a six-point contest with two goals and two assists to earn the SBC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
- Bell tallied three assists, with Braian Amaro and Rai Pinto tallying their first goals of the season. Alexander Adjetey also scored on an assist by goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta.
- Aymane Sordo scored on a bicycle kick landing him at the number five play Saturday morning on SportsCenter Top 10.
- MU is the last team in the country with a perfect winning percentage having no ties or losses in its first 12 matches of the season.
- In the Herd's last 20 contests, it has given up just 10 goals, going 16-2-2 during that stretch.
- Bell is having quite the sophomore campaign. The Kingston, Jamaica, native is eighth in the country at 23 points (9 assists and 7 goals) to lead the SBC. Bell's nine assists are third most in the country and two away from breaking the program's single-season record of 10, last done by Jamil Roberts in 2019. In his career he's averaging a goal contribution a match with 17 goals and 13 assists in 30 games played.
- Perrotta has recorded the victory in goal in all 12 of MU's contests this season with 6.5 shutouts. Perrotta's .839 save percentage ranks ninth in the nation with his .419 goals against average sitting in third.
- The Herd leads the country in assists per game (3.33), goal differential (33), points per game (9.67), scoring offense (3.17), total goals (38) and total points (116).
ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
- WVU is coming off a 3-2 win at South Carolina on Thursday.
- Like MU, the Mountaineers have yet to lose a match this season with nine wins and four draws.
- Marcus Caldeira leads the conference and sits in 18th nationally with nine goals, including three game winners.
- Jackson Lee has been a stalwart in goal earning six shutouts to sit 0.5 behind Perrotta in the SBC.
- Yutaro Tsukada sits second in the conference behind Bell with eight assists during the 2023 campaign.
