HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball fans got their first glimpse of what the Kim Caldwell era will look like on Sunday evening at Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall placed eight scorers in double-figures and scored 70 points in the paint during a 127-76 victory over UPike in front of 3,154 fans during the Fans First exhibition.
"It means a lot to me that we have fans that are out here supporting us," Caldwell said. "It's what makes Marshall special so keep coming out and bring a friend. We appreciate it."
Caldwell said her team would bring an exciting brand of basketball to the Cam Henderson Center and the first live performance for fans delivered.
The 127 points scored would have ranked as the second-most points in Marshall women's basketball program history, had the game been a regular season contest.
Abby Beeman led the scoring barrage with 15 points while adding 10 assists with zero turnovers. Breanna Campbell and Roshala Scott each added 14 points while Aarionna Redman and Aislynn Hayes each had 13 points.
Meredith Maier netted 11 points and Mahogany Matthews and Tamia Lawhorne each had 10 points. C.C. Mays also had nine points and 10 rebounds – six of which came on the offensive end.
As a team, Marshall shot 53.3 percent from the floor, finishing 49 of 92 in the contest.
"We have a lot of people who are really good teammates and are really high energy," Caldwell said. "We got a really good glimpse of that today. Chemistry will just continue to build. Everyone scored today and we had eight people in double-figures."
Marshall's Women's Basketball team opens its 2023-24 season on Nov. 9 at George Mason. The team's first regular-season home game is set for Nov. 20 against Point Park.
