Marshall returns to Huntington for Monday’s home opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A sizable second quarter dropped Marshall (1-2) in its Saturday afternoon contest at Northern Kentucky (1-2), 76-66.
Senior guard Abby Beeman broke through for 26 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Her first double-double of the season included a new single-game high in points with the Herd.
Beeman had three double-doubles in 2022-23 with MU. Her 5.6 assists per game average a season ago led all Marshall players in the 21st century. Beeman had 19 games last year with five or more assists.
Roshala Scott scored 17 while Mahogany Matthews had a season-best 12 points with six blocks.
The Thundering Herd led NKU for the majority of the first quarter, but after falling behind by one to start the second, the Norse opened up a 13-point lead into the halftime break.
Carter McCray had 25 points and a notable 21 rebounds for NKU.
Marshall stabilized the NKU attack in the second half, outscoring the hosts by three in the third and playing an even fourth, but could not close the gap.

The Thundering Herd will have its home opener on Monday against Point Park. Tip from the Cam Henderson Center for Coach Kim Caldwell's home opener will be at 6 p.m.
