Herd Tennis Opens SBC Tournament with Sweep of ULM

Hurrion clinches match
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The sixth-seeded Marshall University tennis team (15-8) swept the 11th-seeded ULM Warhawks (5-18), 4-0, to open the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday night in Peachtree City, Georgia.
"It was an interesting match. I was very impressed by ULM and their effort, but it was good to see us start to separate ourselves late in the match," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said after the contest.
Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion opened up doubles action with a quick 6-1 decision over Oleksandra Balaba and Mackenzie King on court two. Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar followed with a victory over Alice Klinteby and Giovanna Periera in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3), to seal the doubles point.
Doroteja Joksovic continued her side's momentum with a straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-1, at number three singles over Klinteby.
McGrane then dug deep to take her contest at number our singles, 7-6 (4), 6-3, over Angela Del Campo to make it 3-0 MU.
Hurrion sealed the match with a three-set win over Mariam Hatem at number six singles to push the Herd to the quarterfinals.
