HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The third-ranked Marshall Men's Soccer team (8-1-3, 3-0-2 SBC) played to a scoreless draw on Friday night in Conway, South Carolina, against Coastal Carolina (3-7-2, 1-2-2 SBC).
The Herd outshot the Chanticleers 23-3, including 9-2 in shots on goal, and had the corner advantage 16-0.
"Coastal presents a difficult challenge for us. But that's why it's such a great sport," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "They just drop back and defend their box with all 11 players in a 25 by 40-yard square. That's quite unique. Fair play to them though, I hope they play like that against everyone, as it's tough to break down. A bit like trying to crack a safe under water. Still, I thought we created enough chances to win it, and there's not much we'd change to our approach or application. We showed good game spirit in solving the problems they presented us. It Just didn't fall for us tonight with the goal."
Takahiro Fujita, who led MU with five shots, had the first shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the shot was saved by CCU keeper Harrison Gough.
Rai Pinto, Loic Sany Kong and Aleksandar Vukovic each had a pair of shots on target in the second half, all being saved.
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos and Aymane Sordo each had attempts saved in the second half.
Aleksa Janjic started in goal for MU making a pair of saves, one in each the first and second half, to record his fourth shutout of the season.
