HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (3-2) dropped its contest in West Lafayette, Indiana, Saturday, 80-45, to the No. 6/6 Purdue Boilermakers (5-1).
"We didn't play our best in terms of shooting," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said after the game. "I thought we competed. We tied them on the boards for a long part of the game, and were leading. Obviously we have to make shots and take care of the basketball. When you shoot the basketball like we did this afternoon and turn the ball over 19 times with six assists, it's a recipe for disaster."
Nate Martin led the team with nine points and seven rebounds, he made all four of his shots from the field. The senior also had a block and a steal.
The two sides traded the first eight points with The Herd's coming off buckets by Dezayne Mingo and Martin. However, the Boilermakers used a trio of 6-0 runs to jump on top as Marshall trailed 39-24 at halftime.
Purdue continued its hot shooting in the second half making 46.4 percent of its shots in the second half.
MU had 21 points off the bench, including six Jalen Speer and five from Erich Harding. The Herd outrebounded Purdue 14-9 on the offensive glass.
