Herd S&D Sweeps SBC Weekly Awards for Third Time

NEW ORLEANS – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving team swept Sun Belt Conference weekly awards for the third time this season with Grace Kelsheimer earning her third Sun Belt Conference Diver of the Week award and Kseniia Luniushina being named SBC Swimmer of the Week for the first time on Thursday, as announced by the league office.
Kseniia set three records this past weekend against University at Buffalo. Her 100 Backstroke lead-off of 54.10 in the 400 Medley Relay was a Fitch Natatorium record, beating the previous by over 1.5 seconds, and also sits third all-time in program history. The relay currently sits 10th fastest in program history at 3:47.10 with Paige Banton, Madeline Hart and Audrey West. The freshman later swam the 100 Butterfly, marking a season best of 56.57 and currently sits third in the Sun Belt Conference. She finished day one leading off the 200 Freestyle Relay with a 23.44, her second fastest swim of the season and fastest in the SBC.
Luniushina continued her weekend as a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay, anchoring in a time of 23.53. Her first individual swim of the session was the 100 Backstroke, where she bested the competition by over two seconds with a time of 54.78. Luniushina finished the session as a member of the 400 Freestyle Relay (51.67), winning with a time of 3:30.44 that would still sit as the fastest time in the SBC.
Kelsheimer continued her excellence on the boards this season in the meet against Buffalo on Saturday. The junior took second in 1m Diving with a score of 279.23 and third in 3m Diving finishing with a final score of 271.35.
Marshall is back in action on Saturday as it hosts James Madison at 11 a.m. in The Fitch.
