HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall's women's basketball team made six of its 14 three-pointers in the 4th quarter of a 78-76 win over Jacksonville Friday morning. The win in front of 3,733 enthusiastic school children at the Cam Henderson Center marked the Herd's third victory in its last four games.
"I want to thank everybody that put on kids' day," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "It is always a lot of fun and they provide a lot of energy and enthusiasm."
"It is obviously a huge advantage to have 3,000 students screaming for you on your side."
Leading the Herd (4-5) was junior Meredith Maier with 20 points, her second 20-plus point performance this season. She matched her career-high with six triples. Aislynn Hayes with 19 and Madison Kellione with 16 each added three-pointers.
"I know my teammates trust in me," Maier said. "I'm trying to have that confidence that I can put the ball in the basket. Between the three of us we really got the job done today."

In a game of runs, Marshall led by as much as eight and trailed by nine all in the first half. A Peyton Ilderton three gave the Herd the three-point advantage at the break and a Blessing King layup had the game tied after three.
Back-to-back threes from Maier and Kellione opened the 4th for Marshall, who never trailed in the final stanza. One more clutch shot from Maier kept MU ahead with 1:35 remaining after Jacksonville (6-4) cut the game to a point.
Needed free throws and the Herd forcing one of its 19 Dolphins turnovers sealed the Friday morning victory.
The Herd next faces the Cincinnati Bearcats from the Queen City on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Tip is at 6:30 p.m.
