Herd enters SBC Tournament as the 10th seed

ATLANTA, Ga. – Marshall University Men's Basketball (12-19, 7-11 Sun Belt) enters the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championship as the 10th seed after falling at Georgia State (14-16, 8-10 Sun Belt), 82-79, in the regular season finale on Friday night.
The Herd will have a rematch against the Panthers on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. EST/7:30 p.m. CST in Pensacola, Florida in the second round of the SBC Tournament. Click here for the full bracket.
"Tough loss, we fought them though" Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the game. "I thought we played pretty well. There was a little bit better flow (than the last couple games).
Nate Martin recorded his 15th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass. The junior forward made eight of his 11 attempts from the field.
With a team-high 23 points, Kevon Voyles registered back-to-back games with 20 or more points on the road while dishing out a team-high six assists.
Obinna Anochili-Killen also notched 16 points with Cameron Crawford tallying 13 in the contest.
Marshall battled back from a 12-point, 35-23, deficit with six minutes to go in the first half to take a 47-46 lead on Kamdyn Curfman triple 45 ticks into the final 20 minutes of play.
The Herd continued to battle through the second half after Panthers regained the advantage, seeing the deficit at just one point four times throughout the half. However, GSU hung on for the three-point win.
MU out scored Georgia State 16-12 on second chance points and committed just nine turnovers to the Panthers 13.
