Marshall Departs for NCAA Tournament Contest Against Virginia Tech

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The historic Herd's time to dance on the national stage is drawing closer.Â
The 13th-seeded Marshall women's basketball team (26-6) travels down the West Virginia Turnpike Wednesday to Blacksburg for its contest with the No. 4 seed Virginia Tech Hokies (24-7).
Tip from Cassell Coliseum is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday on ESPN2.

PRE-GAME NOTES
- The Herd will attempt to win its first-ever NCAA Tournament game. Marshall is 0-1 all-time in the "Big Dance" with its lone appearance being a 15-seed in a 69-49 loss to the No. 2 seed Colorado in 1997.Â
- No stranger to milestones in 2023-24, Marshall has already set its all-time record for wins in a season. The previous mark was 24 set by the 1986-87 team.Â
- The Herd ranks in the top-10 in the NCAA in several statistical categories, including: No. 1 – 3-point attempts per game (31.2), No. 2 – 3-pointers made per game (10.8), No. 2 – Turnovers forced per game (24.0), No. 3 – Scoring offense per game (86.1), No. 3 – Steals per game (13.2), and No. 9 – Offensive rebounds per game (15.7).Â
- Coach Kim Caldwell was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year. Her overall record as a head coach is 217-30. Caldwell met with the media Wednesday, which can be viewed HERE.

ABOUT VT
- The 4-seed Virginia Tech Hokies went 24-7 in the regular season and 14-4 in the ACC. The Hokies were ranked 13th in the final AP Top-25 Poll.Â
- VT Center Elizabeth Kitley was named a 2nd-Team All-American by the USBWA. She has been named the ACC Player of the Year each of the last three seasons.Â
- Friday's game will be the 11th all-time meeting between the Herd and Hokies. VT leads the series, 8-2.
