HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Following a resurgent regular season which led to a Sun Belt Conference title, the top-seeded Marshall Thundering Herd (23-6) opens postseason play against the ninth–seeded App State Mountaineers (17-14).

PRE-GAME NOTES
- Marshall won its first regular-season conference title in 35 years by winning the 2024 SBC regular season title. The Herd will attempt to win its first conference tournament title and advance to its second NCAA Tournament appearance (1997).
- The Herd's regular season title run came with accolades. Coach Kim Caldwell was named SBC Coach of the Year, while Abby Beeman was named the league's Player of the Year.
- As a team, MU finished the regular season as top of the league in scoring offense (85.4), 3-pointers per game (10.8), assists per game (16.4), turnover margin (7.72), and steals per game (13.3).

ABOUT APP STATE
- The 9-seed App State Mountaineers advanced to Friday's quarterfinals by way of a 73-68 win over Georgia State in the SBC 2nd Round Wednesday.
- Marshall and App battled twice in the regular season, with big quarters being the difference for the Herd. In the Jan. 31 meeting in Huntington, MU led by two at halftime before outscoring App 23-9 in the 3rd quarter en route to an 81-69 victory. The teams were tied entering the final quarter in Boone on Feb. 15 before Coach Caldwell's side raced past the Mountaineers to an 87-78 final.
- App's leading scorer is Faith Alston. Her 36 points Wednesday nearly doubled her season average of 18.2.
