TORONTO – Marshall University Swimming and Diving senior Paige Banton had a strong week at the 2024 Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, reaching the B Final in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke to finish in the top 20 in both events.
"What a special week for Paige," Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said about Banton's performance. "It is impressive to qualify for an Olympic Trial meet, but it is more impressive to navigate the emotions of a meet like this and compete at a high level. She placed top 20 in Canada in both of her events and had a lifetime best performance along with a team record."
The native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, started the event on Tuesday in the 100 Breaststroke. In prelims, Banton swam the race in 1:12.35 to reach the B Final. Then in the B Final, the senior took 20th in the event with a time of 1:14.37.
Banton then closed out action at event on Friday in the 200 Breaststroke. In prelims, Banton finished the race with a time of 2:37.80 for an 18th place finish to reach the B Final. She then took 18th overall after reaching the wall in 2:38.94 in the B Final.
"She has represented her club team, Marshall University, and her family with incredible grit and grace this week. We are all so proud of her," Walsh said.
