HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 6 Marshall Men's Soccer team (4-1-1) drew 1-1 against the St. John's Red Storm (2-2-3) to close a four-match homestand on Saturday night. It was the team's first draw since November 20, 2022, at No. 4 Virginia in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
"They were chasing the game. We had it for about 60 minutes with the run of play," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "You have to take advantage of that. You have to put teams away and we just left them hanging around and hanging around. We were lacking a little bit of quality in that final pass, final ball.
MU goalkeeper Dan Rose stopped a Red Storm shot just over a minute into the contest.
After a lull from both offenses, Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos dished off a pass to Alexander Stjernegaard. The Danish midfielder was given some space and fired a shot from the outside the 18-yard box. Stjernegaard's attempt floated past the keeper to give The Herd a 1-0 lead.
Rose made another key save with just under five minutes remaining in the half maintain the 1-0 advantage.
St. John's tied the contest 1-1 at the 66:19 mark on a shot by Tyler Morck.
Rose kept the Red Storm the rest of the way to maintain the draw with saves in the 72nd, 77th and 87th minutes.
