HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 7 Marshall Men's Soccer team (3-1) blanked the High Point Panthers (0-2-2) 2-0 on Friday night at Hoops Family Field. Goalkeeper Dan Rose won his first collegiate match with the shutout as Rai Pinto and Marco Silva each scored a goal.

"That was a tough game," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said after the match. "I think High Point was very well organized, very well coached. They had a game plan. It was tough for us to breakdown, but I liked that we got the early attack. It led to the penalty, and we got the goal. We're still finding our rhythm a little bit and breaking teams down."

After a slow offensive start from both teams, The Herd drew a penalty kick at the 6:55 mark. Pinto stepped up to the spot and buried the attempt in the bottom left corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead, on his second make from the spot of the week.

With each team receiving a red card in the first 40 minutes of action, the game was played 10 a side for the final 50 minutes.

The Panthers lone attempt on goal came in the final minutes of play in the first half, but Rose stood tall, making the save to keep the contest at 1-0 Herd.

In the 83rd minute, The Herd iced the game. Alexander Stjernegaard sent a pass down the left wing to Tarik Pannholzer. Pannholzer then sent a pass over to Silva, who beat the keeper to make it 2-0 Herd on his second goal of the season and week.
