HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball Team (3-0) held off a resilient Elon squad 96-89 on Wednesday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

"That was fun," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Cornelius 'Corny' Jackson said. "That was a fun one to be a part of, fun game to coach, fun game to watch."

Wyatt Fricks erupted for a career-high 34 points on near-perfect shooting, hitting 13-of-14 from the field and knocking down 7-of-8 from beyond the arc. The redshirt senior forward's dominance provided the foundation for the Herd's explosive attack, as he added nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks while coming up clutch in critical moments.

Noah Otshudi delivered a strong all-around effort, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 38 minutes, helping steady the offense during Elon's persistent comeback attempts. The Herd's ball movement was on full display, with Jalen Speer orchestrating the group and dishing out a career-high 12 assists to go with nine points.

The first half set the tone for a shootout, with both teams trading runs and combining for 88 points before the break. Marshall entered halftime leading 45-43 after a back-and-forth stretch capped by timely threes from Fricks and Cal Hollenbeck. After the break, Hollenbeck sparked a quick 10-4 Marshall run with a deep three, and the Herd built an 8-point lead early in the second half.

Holding a slim margin throughout, Marshall leaned on late-game execution as Elon closed within seven in the final minute. Fricks' smooth jumper with 1:05 left pushed the lead to 11, and the Herd knocked down free throws down the stretch to outlast the Phoenix.

Matt Van Komen anchored the defense with six blocks and seven rebounds. His presence down low was crucial, especially in the final minute, swatting away a potential Elon score with 10 seconds left to all but seal the result.

Caleb Hollenbeck knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Marshall shot 54.1 percent from the field and 46.9 percent from deep, connecting on 15-of-32 from three-point range. The Herd assisted on 23-of-33 made baskets and committed just 14 turnovers, maintaining composure amid Elon's late surge.
