Marshall Football Falls To Georgia Southern, 24-19

Quinn sets single-season FG mark as Herd’s season ends at 5-7
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football dropped a 24-19 contest with Georgia Southern in front of 21,524 fans at Joan C. Edwards Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Marshall ends its season at 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt Conference.
"I thought the kids fought really hard to get back in it, but we dug ourselves a hole in the first half and we couldn't get out of it," said Marshall Football coach Tony Gibson. "We had some opportunities to make plays and we didn't."
Marshall wide receiver Adrian Norton finished with eight catches for 160 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Zion Turner with 2:19 left that pulled the Herd within striking distance.
However, Georgia Southern was able to pick up a crucial first down late to salt the game away.
Turner came on in the second half and provided a spark for the Herd, finishing 13 of 19 through the air for 172 yards. Carlos Del Rio-Wilson was 9 of 16 in the first half for 136 yards with one interception.
One of the day's highlights for the Herd involved Marshall kicker Lorcan Quinn kicking a pair of field goals to break the single-season record for made field goals with 21.
Quinn's 42-yard field goal in the first quarter opened the scoring for the Herd and broke the record of 19, which was previously held by three different players: Tim Openlander (1995), David Merrick (1993) and Dewey Klein (1988).
Later, Quinn added a 24-yard field goal near the end of the first half to pull the Herd within 14-6 at the break. Quinn ends the season with 101 points for Marshall.
Defensively, the Herd got solid efforts from cornerback Boogie Trotter, who finished with a career-high 14 tackles, and Kerion Martin, who added 10 tackles in the loss.
Marshall running back Antwan Roberts also had a 17-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter that gave the Herd its first offensive touchdown of the day.
