HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball Team (6-4) used an all-around performance, pulling away in the second half for a 77-61 win over WKU on Wednesday night at the Cam Henderson Center.

"We needed that one," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Cornelius 'Corny' Jackson said after the win. "I'm proud of our guys for coming out and having competitive stamina. We have been preaching that the last few days. The competitive focus, competitive focus, to get the job done."

The Herd set the tone with suffocating defense, holding the Hilltoppers to just 30.8 percent shooting and controlling the paint from start to finish, finishing with a 30-26 advantage. Marshall tallied nine blocks, led by a dominant effort from Matt Van Komen, who finished with a double-double of 12 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks.

Offensively, Jalen Speer poured in a game-high 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting, including four three-pointers, while adding four rebounds and five assists across 36 minutes. The Herd saw four players score in double figures, continuing a balanced attack that overwhelmed Western Kentucky after halftime.

Marshall took a narrow 29-28 lead into the break after a crucial first-half layup by
Landen Joseph, who provided a massive spark off the bench and finished with a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, two assists). In the second half, Marshall outscored the visitors 48-33, stretching the advantage behind key plays from Noah Otshudi, who tallied 12 points and a team-best seven assists.

The Herd's defensive wall was too much for Western Kentucky to overcome, as Marshall doubled up the Hilltoppers in second-chance points, 14-7, and led for over 28 minutes of game action.
