BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (7-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 5-2, Friday afternoon in Blacksburg, Virginia, to the Virginia Tech Hokies (6-1).

"Virginia Tech just played better. We had our shot in doubles, but couldn't raise our level like we've been able to do so far this season. Good efforts by Ash and Nour to finish strong in their matches," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said after the match.

In doubles, Alina Mokrynskaya and Emma Vanderheyden captured a 6-2 victory over the 67th-ranked doubles pairing of Charlotte Cartledge and Ozelm Uslu at No. 1 doubles.

Aisling McGrane and Nour El Ouazzani closed singles action with wins in super tiebreaks at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. McGrane rallied back after falling in the first set.
