Marshall Women's Basketball Falls Late To Georgia State, 70-68

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball went to the wire with Georgia State, but fell in a tough 70-68 loss to the Panthers in front of 1,576 fans on Senior Day at Cam Henderson Center.
With the loss, Marshall falls to 11-19 overall and 6-12 in the Sun Belt Conference.
"We had just played them last week and I felt like we came in with a really good plan," Marshall Women's Basketball Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "On offense, we had so many possessions that got away from us because we had turnovers. I thought that was really frustrating because we were shooting the ball well."
The result means the Herd will be the No. 11 seed in the upcoming 2025 Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championships in Pensacola, Florida, and take on No. 14 South Alabama at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
Marshall was led in scoring by Meredith Maier, who scored 18 points and hit four 3-pointers in the game for the Herd – part of an evening in which the team knocked down 11 3-pointers.
However, the Herd could not overcome 22 turnovers, which plagued them in the loss.
"The pressure in the backcourt speeds you up a little bit, and I thought we'd been doing a really good job of handling that and then slowing down in the half-court when we need to if we don't have an advantage," Fulks said. "We had so many turnovers and they had 23 points off of those."
In addition to Maier's 18 points, the Herd got 10 points from C.C. Mays, who was one of five seniors honored prior to Friday's contest.
The seniors include Mays, Aislynn Hayes, Alasia Hayes, Ashley Tudor and Maddie Kellione.
