Marshall Athletics Leads Sun Belt In LEARFIELD Directors Cup Standings

Herd ranks in Top 75 nationally after completion of Fall 2024 sports seasons
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Athletics leads the Sun Belt Conference in the LEARFIELD Directors Cup Standings after the Fall sports seasons for the 2024-25 year.
Marshall is currently No. 72 in the nation, collecting 90.0 points in the Fall cycle, which places them within the nation's leaders among Group of Five programs.
"Competitive programs and competitive success are always going to be a priority for us," said Christian Spears, Marshall's Director of Athletics. "Our student-athletes all strive for a championship experience, and this is a testament to their efforts. Being the best in the Sun Belt is important to us all – our coaches, our staff, our community and our student-athletes."
One of the major highlights from the Fall 2024 sports season included Marshall's Men's Soccer program finishing as the national runners-up in the 2024 NCAA College Cup – a tournament in which they were seeded No. 13 going in and knocked off No. 1 Ohio State in the semifinals as well en route to a NCAA Championship appearance.
Chris Grassie's group finished the season at 15-2-7 while going unblemished in Sun Belt Conference play at 4-0-5. That mark included a perfect 11-0-3 record at home at Hoops Family Field.
Other notable accomplishments throughout the fall season included Marshall Football going 10-3 and earning the Sun Belt Conference Championship and Marshall Women's Cross Country senior Kylee Mastin winning the Sun Belt Conference Championship, becoming the first individual women's champion in the program's 39-year history.
