NEW ORLEANS – Marshall University Tennis senior Sophia Hurrion was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday, as announced by the league office. Hurrion was honored for her performance in The Herd's 4-3 win over Wake Forest on Sunday moving the team to a 5-0 start to 2025.
The senior along with doubles partner Aisling McGrane battled the No. 44 ranked duo of Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum of Wake Forest to a 6-6 tiebreak as their contest went unfinished.
Hurrion then carried her momentum into singles as she handed Tannenbaum just her second loss of the season with a 6-3, 6-4, triumph in straight sets at No. 4 singles to move her record to 5-0 during the Spring.
Marshall hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend beginning Friday at Indiana and concluding Sunday at Miami (OH).
