The last time the Herd hosted the Wildcats was in the 2004-05 season. The "Jam the Cam" event set a Marshall and MAC women's basketball attendance record at the time with 7,017 fans at the Henderson Center.

MU and UK have met on 20 occasions, first facing each other in the 1971-72 season. Marshall has won five games against the Wildcats, including posting a 3-5 record in Huntington.

The Herd defeated Florida in the 2023-24 season in its last contest hosting an SEC school. That SBC championship-winning season for Marshall culminated with a trip to the NCAA Tournament and a matchup against Virginia Tech and now-head coach of the Wildcats, Kenny Brooks.
