Vote For Carlos Del-Rio Wilson As Manning Award Quarterback of the Week
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson was named as the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The announcement by the league added to an already award-laden day for the Herd quarterback, who also was touted by the two most prestigious national awards for quarterbacks earlier in the day.
Del Rio-Wilson was named as one of the Manning Award's "Stars of the Week" while the Davey O'Brien Award included him on its 'Great 8' for Week Four.
Those honors come after Del Rio-Wilson led Marshall to a 42-28 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday – a victory in which the Herd trailed going into the fourth quarter, but Del Rio-Wilson threw a pair of touchdown passes to help the Herd score 21 fourth-quarter points to turn the game around.
For the contest, Del Rio-Wilson finished 18 of 22 for 261 yards and threw as many touchdown passes (4) as incompletions. He also added a rushing touchdown for five total TDs in the contest.
With the Manning Award inclusion, Del Rio-Wilson is up for the Manning Award 'Quarterback of the Week', which is decided by fan voting. Fans who want to vote for Del Rio-Wilson can click HERE to do so. Voting ends Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Del Rio-Wilson's inclusion on the Davey O'Brien Award 'Great 8' for Week Four also earns him automatic inclusion to the Davey O'Brien Award's Midseason Watch List – an award that is given at season's end to the best quarterback in college football.
He also will be nominated for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week, which will be revealed at Noon on Tuesday.
Del Rio-Wilson and the Herd open Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday with an 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT matchup against Louisiana at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La.
