HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball saw its 20-point halftime lead slip in a tough 85-82 loss to Troy on Wednesday evening at the Cam Henderson Center. Senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey notched her Herd first double-double, tying her season high with 33 points and set a new career mark with 10 assists, but a late surge by Troy spoiled the Herd's night in front of a raucous "Greek Night" crowd. The defeat moves Marshall to 17-6 overall and 8-3 in SBC play.
The Herd dominated early, racing to a 21-15 lead after the one and stretching the advantage to as many as 21 points before halftime. Lewis-Eutsey was at the center of the attack, pouring in 19 first-half points.
Troy, however, stormed back in the second half with a relentless attack. The Trojans outscored Marshall 53-30 after the intermission, fueled by a 51-31 advantage on the glass, including 23 offensive rebounds. The top-scoring team in the SBC drained a go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute to give Troy a lead it would not relinquish.
Despite the loss, Lewis-Eutsey became just the 7th player in NCAA DI with four 30-plus point games this season. She is the first Marshall player since Abby Beeman in 2023-24 to record 10 or more assists in a game.
Off the bench, Ni'Kiah Chesterfield added a season-high 22 minutes and 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, helping the Herd's reserves outscore Troy's bench 25-13. Starter Meredith Maier extended her double-figure scoring streak to four games with 12 point.
